British Seafront
Client: Confidential
Location: Prince's Parade
Project Scope: Master Planning
Project Status: Feasibility

Although a mooted renaissance has occurred in a handful of locations such as Margate and Southend by way of cultural interventions, galleries and other visitor attractions British seaside towns have certainly seen better days.

Our client owns The Hythe Imperial Hotel, Spa and Golf Club formerly a single 18th Century Victorian house. Sandwiched between the Royal Military Canal, now a scheduled ancient monument, and the sea front our client owns 29 hectares of land.

The hotel operation is an economically viable proposition, whereas the associated golf club is not. The golf course is not the most attractive, and with only 12 holes, other local full size courses have effectively consigned the Hythe hotel golf club to history.

The challenge for the Local Authority is that to secure the future attractiveness of this strip of sea front for the local community some development is required or an area of land will become overgrown, redundant and become an eyesore.
